ABOUT THE SESSION: As of January 1, 2023, caps on non-economic damages evolved in a significant fashion. The change is scarcely being felt now, but incremental increases for the foreseeable future are likely to have a rather large impact in case values, settlement numbers and jury verdicts.
In this discussion, you will learn why California enacted MICRA, the difference between economic damages and non-economic damages, how MICRA changed and why, what still needs clarification under the new legislation, the impact to health care providers and insurance companies thus far, and what we anticipate in the future.

She currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada and oversees claims handling for the Western Region of ProAssurance.
